SESSIONS:

July 1-5 (No Class July 4)| Outside Art |Levels: K-2, 3-5

A person’s art is uniquely his or her own. And difference in perspective leads to exciting discoveries about the range and beauty of interpretation. Each day, participants will be immersed in a different topic. We’ll meet creatures and examine plants and trees before we turn the essence of those experiences into art. This week allows children to understand the biodiversity found in the natural world and to view it through each other’s eyes. We will use different techniques to create arts and crafts inspired by nature. Drawing, painting and other basic art forms will be explored.  SPECIAL GUEST!  A teaching artist from ArtsQuest will join us for a morning session.

*Fee: $140 for half-day camp; $220 for full-day camp; pre and post camp $24 each

July 8-12 | Realm of the Forest |Levels: K-2, 3-5

This week, we will explore legends of mystical beings that are found in the natural world. Campers will track and build a village for fairies suspected to reside within the confines of Sand Island. Wonder what other legendary beings may be moving through our village under the cover of darkness? A view through the eyes of people who inhabited our area before the Europeans will allow us to consider the presence of Lenape legendary beings. We will spend much of our time outdoors uncovering what is out there. Activities are designed for imaginative, open-minded fun seekers.

July 22-26 | Stories for the Wild Child |Levels: K-2, 3-5

The stories we read with a child’s imagination imprint a magic that may influence our actions through our entire life. This week, we are going to use beloved children’s books to mesh fiction with reality. Each story’s theme will be the foundation of each day’s activities. Characters like Stellaluna, Gertrude McFuzz and the Gruffalo will introduce us to local animals, habitats and opportunities to explore.
