Battling Invasives: Habitat Restoration

Habitat Restoration Efforts Continue at Cole Easement

Charlie Cole’s conservation easement site was in rapid decline due to an invasive plant species, phragmites. Despite his understanding and sense of responsibility, the scale of work required to remedy this issue was more than he could take on alone. Last year, removal efforts commenced with the help of Wildlands’ seasonal stewardship crew, a group of college-age students pursuing environmental studies. The crew is led by director of property stewardship, Carl Martin.

The stewardship crew has returned to assess results and develop a long-term management plan, all while benefiting from a very special hands-on learning experience. Watch our video to meet Charlie, take a tour of the conservation easement and learn more about our continued partnership to restore this important habitat.
