Controlled Burn Information

Update 6/22 : Conditions at Thomas Darling continue to be closely monitored. The controlled burn has been postponed. Please sign up for our mailing list to receive more information.

Within the window of June-October, 2017, a professional fire team will be onsite at Thomas Darling to administer a controlled burn. Please understand you may see smoke within this timeframe.

Wildlands employs science-based standards and proven land preservation techniques to manage natural areas like Thomas Darling Preserve. Controlled burns conducted by professional fire teams safely reduce the amount of fuel for fires, plus benefit the long-term health of the natural area.

Why the Window Timeframe?

Controlled burns are conducted under precise, closely monitored weather conditions to ensure the utmost safety of the public and the professional fire team. A window timeframe best ensures that the controlled burn will take place only when the proper weather and fuel conditions are met.
