August:

August 7 - August 11| Wildlife Camp |Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

Have you ever observed an owl so closely that you can see the down of their feathers or hear the soft sounds they make? Have you seen the iridescence of a butterfly wing under a microscope? This week we are building naturalists. We’ll flip rocks, explore the shores of the Lehigh River, and the open and forested areas of the park as we ignite an interest in ornithology, herpetology, entomology or mammalogy. Live animals, games and crafts are part of the fun. Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor staff will present a mule day at the National Cana Museum, during a morning session. Campers will interact with mules Hank and George and learn harnessing.

August 14 - August 18| Outside Art |Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

There is beauty to be found in the gentle movement of a leaf, a refracted reflection in water or the color of a toad’s eye. Your art is enhanced by understanding your subject before capturing it. Campers this week will learn how to uncover the art hidden in nature and nature discovered through art. We will use different techniques to create arts and crafts from natural materials. Photography, drawing, painting and other basic art skills will be introduced and practiced. Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor staff will present a morning session at the National Canal Museum on how the canal was constructed.
