June:

June 19-23|Secrets of the Forest|Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

This week we will explore myths and legends of magical beings that care for the natural world and all its creatures. We’ll build a fairy village in the woods on Sand Island and search for a gnomes buried treasure. We’ll find the wonder in water, meadows and forests as we explore the island’s hidden spaces. Rumor has it, that under the right conditions, we may even be able to spy a woodland fairy or two. This is for the camper that believes magic can be found in everyday things.

July:

July 3-7 (No Class July 4)|Outside Art|Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

There is beauty to be found in the gentle movement of a leaf, a refracted reflection in water or the color of a toad’s eye. Your art is enhanced by understanding your subject before capturing it. Campers this week will learn how to uncover the art hidden in nature and nature discovered through art. We will use different techniques to create arts and crafts from natural materials. Photography, drawing, painting and other basic art skills will be introduced and practiced.

July 10-14 | Water Camp |Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

Summer is in full swing and it is time to get wet and wild. This week is about everything that is found in and around or is impacted by water. Sand Island offers the unique perspective to explore the Monocacy Creek, Lehigh River and the Lehigh Canal. Frogs are splashing, fish are swimming and dragonflies are molting.  A week of fun and educational games, exploration and experiments ends with a water obstacle course.

July 24-28 | Wildlife Camp |Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6+

Have you ever observed an owl so closely that you can see the down of their feathers or hear the soft sounds they make? Have you seen the iridescence of a butterfly wing under a microscope? This week we are building naturalists. We’ll flip rocks, explore the Monocacy Creek, and the open and forested areas of Sand Island as we ignite an interest in ornithology, herpetology, entomology or mammalogy. Live animals, games and crafts are part of the fun.
