SESSIONS:

July 2-6 (No Class July 4)| Outside Art |Levels: K-2, 3-5

A person’s art is uniquely their own. And difference in perspective leads to exciting discoveries about the range and beauty of interpretation. Each day participants will be immersed in a different topic. We’ll wade in and look under water before we paint it. We’ll meet creatures and examine plants and trees before we turn the essence of those experiences into art. This week allows children to understand the biodiversity found in the natural world and to view it through each other’s eyes. We will use different techniques to create arts and crafts inspired by nature. Drawing, painting and other basic art forms will be explored.  Special guest artist from The Banana Factory will join us for an am session

*Fee: $135 for half-day camp; $215 for full-day camp; Pre and post trip $20 each

Summer is in full swing and it is time to get wet and wild. This week is about everything that is found in and around or is impacted by water. Sand Island offers the unique perspective to explore the Monocacy Creek, Lehigh River and the Lehigh Canal. Frogs are splashing, fish are swimming and dragonflies are molting.  A week of fun and educational games, exploration and experiments ends with a water obstacle course.

July 23-27 | Realm of the Forest |Levels: K-2, 3-5

This week we will explore legends of mystical beings that are found in the natural world. Campers will track and build a village for fairies suspected to reside within the confines of Sand Island. Lesser known mysteries of beings such as The Dwayyo,  Snallgaster, jackalopes and fur bearing trout will be unraveled as well. We will spend most of our time in the forest uncovering what is out there. Activities are designed for imaginative, open minded fun seekers.

July 30- August 3 | Outdoor Skills Camp|Levels: K-2, 3-5

The ability to decipher clues and develop reasonable conclusions is pivotal to survival. Participants will have to solve a mystery to locate necessary equipment to carry out our planned activity. This camp incorporates not only recreational skills like hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and tracking but survival skills as well. Learning to forage, find your way with GPS and compass and how to signal for help adds a whole other dimension to being outside.
