History & Conservation Value

In 1973, South Mountain gave rise to Wildlands Conservancy’s mission as one of the organization’s first land acquisitions. The preserve boasts more than 350 acres of woodland trails, pronounced rocky outcroppings and unique vistas in an otherwise urban landscape. South Mountain Preserve is considered part of the 750-acre Robert Rodale Reserve, one of the most important natural areas in the Lehigh Valley.

Trail Network Happenings & Advancements

Wildlands recently completed the Log Trail. This new trail enhances hiking access from the eastern reaches of the preserve, which was previously inaccessible, adding an additional two miles to the preserve’s network.
