Bike & Boat Adventures
Wildlands Conservancy’s Bike and Boat program is an experiential education/recreation program designed to provide participants with a unique outdoor adventure that promotes conservation and responsible stewardship of the Lehigh River watershed’s natural resources.
Bike & Boat features a “hands-on” and empowering approach to watershed education. Bike and Boat trips for schools include curriculums that are aligned to current Pennsylvania Academic Standards and have associated pre-trip and post-trip activities designed to promote parental involvement. Bike and Boat program activities are designed to demonstrate the relevance of textbook activities and class work to the student’s everyday life. The Lehigh River, relatively undisturbed and flowing through the “metro-wilderness” of the Lehigh Valley, is one of America’s foremost historic and scenic waterways. The natural beauty of the river, its abundant wildlife, and the experience of canoeing its gentle waters, makes this an opportunity not to be missed. Wildlands Conservancy’s approach to this program encourages intellectual and ethical development, personal growth, civic and social responsibility, career exploration and serves as an introduction to life-long, healthy recreational activities such as canoeing, hiking, and biking.
Our Bike and Boat programs are extremely popular with schools, church groups, businesses, scout groups, and the general public. If you are a group leader interested in setting up a personalized outdoor adventure for your group or organization of ten or more, click here to see the different trips that are offered through our Bike and Boat program. For families or individuals who do not have a large group, check out our schedule of 2008 Public Bike and Boat Adventure Days. Each of these trips are designed to provide participants with a fun, safe, and informative outdoor recreation experience. Trips are designed for beginners and include a thorough safety briefing, as well as an introduction to paddling technique by some of our experts.
Bicycles, canoes, and other safety equipment that may be needed (PFDs, helmets, etc.) are provided for each trip. We also have certified safety instructors and naturalists that accompany every group.
Trips run everyday from April to October and can be booked with the Rivers Department by at (610) 965-4397 ext. 35. This program is a lot of fun, and we've had a wonderful response. We recommend that you book this program early, so that you have a better chance of getting the date that meets the needs of your group, or getting a spot if you are booking registrations to public Bike and Boat Adventure Days, as trips do fill up.
