River Conditions to Next Access Point: 

This access point is the southern terminus of the Lehigh River Water Trail.  To continue a water trip on the Delaware River or the Delaware Canal  in the Delaware Canal State Park, there are two options: 

  • Boaters can portage 100 feet below the dam to enter the Delaware River.  Walk about 300 feet in the grass, and continue down a paved ramp to the Delaware River.
  • Boaters can travel by car to the opposite (south) side of the Lehigh River via Larry Holmes Drive to Route 611 South.  Access the Delaware River or the Delaware Canal at the parking area near the fish ladder and the entrance to Delaware Canal State Park.
  • River Reach Map: Freemansburg to Easton
  • Canal Loop Map: Hugh Moore Park

  DANGER: The Easton Dam is significantly dangerous.  Be careful to approach the access point on RIVER LEFT, hugging the shoreline after passing the 3rd Street (automobile) Bridge as you approach the concrete ramp.

Linkages:

  • Downtown Easton: Restaurants, museums, Two Rivers Landing, National Canal Museum, convenience stores, fast food, gas, lodging, historical attractions, shopping, and theaters.
  • Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and the D & L Trail: The D & L Trail, which extends to the west (upstream) to the Route 33 access point and far beyond, and south (downstream) through the 60-mile-long Delaware Canal State Park to Bristol.
  • Delaware Canal State Park:  Trail users should travel the Hugh Moore Park towpath trail east toward Easton and cross the Delaware Canal at the fish ladder to the Delaware Canal State Park towpath along the Delaware Canal.  

Access Point Orientation and Description:
The access point is on RIVER LEFT and lies just upstream from the Easton Dam at the confluence of the Lehigh and Delaware rivers within Easton's Scott Park.  It has a concrete ramp to launch and retrieve boats.  The Easton downtown area is within 0.2 mile from the access area, and the Delaware Canal State Park is across the Lehigh River (to the south) via Route 611.

Locating the Access Point from the River:
Pass under a steel railroad bridge and the 3rd Street (automobile) Bridge in Easton.  DANGER!  The Easton Dam and the Delaware River are just ahead. Stay close to the riverbank on RIVER LEFT to approach the concrete ramp at the access point.

Directions to Access Parking/Unloading Area by Land:
From I-78, take Exit 75.  Go north on Morgan Hill Road, following the “To Route 611” signs toward Easton.  Go 0.3 mile on Morgan Hill Road to the stop sign at Old Philadelphia Road.  Bear to the right onto Old Philadelphia Road and go 0.5 mile to the stop sign at St. John Street.  Bear left onto St. John Street and go 0.7 mile over the bridge (and the Lehigh River ) to Route 611 (Larry Holmes Drive).  Turn right onto Route 611 North ( Larry Holmes Drive ) and go 0.2 mile to the access area on the right. For parking, go an additional 0.1 mile to the parking lot on the right.

Access Point Location:
This access is within Easton's Scott Park on the northern bank of the Lehigh River.  It is designed for motorized and non-motorized watercraft. 

User Facilities:

  • Road access directly to the river
  • Fishing in season
  • Restaurants, food, hotels, and other services available within walking distance
  • Museums and other tourist attractions are nearby
  • The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor's Two Rivers Landing is nearby
  • Numerous historical attractions

Present Use and Conditions:
Motorized boats, including personal watercraft, use this reach of the river.  Fishing is popular as well.  The parking lot can accommodate 10 cars.  Signs indicating the dangerous nature of the dam are posted about 200 feet above the dam.  Stay very close to the bank on RIVER LEFT to avoid the dam.
