The Slate Heritage Trail, “Rails-to-Trails” project, uses the former Lehigh Valley Railroad right-of-way beginning at a junction with the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Trail in Slatington. From that trailhead the Slate Heritage Trail continues west through Washington Township, and Emerald to Slatedale. We’ll start our hike in the middle and walk in both directions. Bring water shoes, as we will pass several spots where you can wade in Trout Creek. The walk is appropriate for children of all ages. This macadam trail is stroller and wheelchair friendly. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bring binoculars and/or camera for wildlife or historical observations. Bathrooms are available at the covered bridge parking and at the trail’s eastern end.
