Building for Bees – July 29

Saturday, July 29 , 10:00 am – noon

Excluding honeybees, there are about 3,500 bee species living in the US that are also important pollinators. 85% of all bees, including the many species of bumblebees, are often referred to as solitary bees. Called this because they do not live in hives and do not have a queen, they instead live alongside other bees, but nest in individual holes. Solitary bees are critical elements of food webs associated with wildlife habitats of all types in North America because almost all of them were here long before the familiar honeybee introduced by European colonists. After learning about native bees, we are going to construct a solitary bee box that can be installed in your own back yard.

Cost is $15.00 per bee box.
